Summary

The phone is not ideal. Yet, at the time of writing this (early 2023) it is one of the best thermal imaging phones available on the market. With a high resolution thermal camera (256x192) it competes with Doogee S98 Pro (which is marginally smaller, but slightly heavier, has no Wifi 6 (ax) support, and no 5G support, but runs newer Android 12), InfiRay PX1 and - if you do not need the night vision - with Blackview BL8800 Pro or Ulefone 18T 5G - both of them slightly larger and heavier.

If you need a high resolution thermal camera at 25Hz, then AGM (both G1S and Glory Pro), Infiray PX1 and Doogee S98 should be under your consideration. If you need to create comparable thermal images (i.e. with fixed temperature-to-color scale), then you may want to consider FLIR instead of InfiRay devices (however, this is a software issue, so it can quickly change).

The device, at 315g is significantly less heavy than e.g. AGM Glory Pro or (non TC/NV) H5. In our opinion (subjective, of course), the difference of approx. 50-60g between these phones works strongly in favour of the G1S: it feels slicker and lighter.

Despite a large and sharp IPS LCD screen at 2340x1080, lack of L1 DRM support may put off fans of Netflix - no L1 means you only get SD resolution in Netflix. However, other than maybe Cat S62 Pro (which is now 3 years old), you may be out of luck, if you want to find an L1 thermal camera phone.

Pros Cons
+ elegant design - bulky (for a mobile phone)
+ high resolution thermal camera - no color lock in thermal cam app
+ 25Hz thermal imaging - single IR led
+ night vision camera - IPS only screen, with mid-low brightness
+ award-winning housing - poor camera performance in low light
+ FHD, flicker-free screen - no wireless charging
+ good battery life - slow (10W) dock charging
+ lightweight (for a rugged phone)

Overall TINV score: 85%
